Fund For A New Generation
Providing a Better Future for Children throughout the Ottawa Region
A volunteer organisation, this group of dedicated young professionals from Ottawa's private, public and academic sectors undertake each year to provide financial support to charities and programmes targeting underprivileged children. This financial support is raised through one of the social events of the season on the Ottawa calendar, the "Ottawa Gala". The Ottawa Gala attracts over 1,000 professionals, decision makers and generous sponsors from across a wide spectrum of industries and government departments - tomorrow's leaders coming together with one common goal, a better future for children.
Since 1993, the Ottawa Gala has raised approximately half a million dollars. This money has been dispersed amongst specific initiatives all in the aim of helping children succeed beyond the constraints of poverty. Most of the funding ($400,000) has been contributed to the School Breakfast Program; a program, which seeks to provide children a nutritious start to their day, which independent studies have proven increases self-esteem, school attendance, behaviour and the ability to learn. This program managed and operated by the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI) feeds 8,500 hungry kids in local schools every day as well as providing funding for equipment and program monitors. For further information on the School Breakfast Program, visit www.ottawaschoolbreakfastprogram.ca
As well, in an effort to build stability and longevity for future initiatives, the Ottawa Gala has contributed another $100,000 to its own Fund for a New Generation, a permanent endowment administered by the Community Foundation of Ottawa-Carleton.
A voluntary Board of Directors administers the Fund for a New Generation. The co-chairs of the Board for 2008-09 are:
