$30,000 RAISED THROUGH OTTAWA GALA FOR
LOCAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST PROGRAMS

(OTTAWA) – The Ottawa Gala - one of Ottawa's premiere social events - today delivered on its promise to help feed youngsters that would otherwise go hungry. The Honourable John Baird, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and the Member of Parliament for Ottawa West-Nepean, presented proceeds from the gala during an event at École Terre-des-Jeunes in Ottawa this morning.
“This $30,000 dollar cheque is the result of young professionals doing their part to give back,” said Minister Baird. “It's people power in action to help give hundreds of children a healthy start to each day and a solid head start in life."
Sarah Lamarche and Denise Siele, 2011 co-presidents of the Fund for New Generation (FNG) joined Minister Baird. The FNG is a volunteer board of dedicated young Ottawa professionals, which hosts the annual Ottawa Gala. The Gala raised the funds for the donation in support of Ottawa's underprivileged youth. The majority of the money raised by the Gala has been donated to the School Breakfast Program, operated by the Ottawa-Carleton Learning Foundation (OCLF).
“Over the past 17 years, the Fund for a New Generation has raised over half a million dollars for the School Breakfast Program through the Ottawa Gala,” said Kathy McKinlay, Executive Director of the OCLF, “Hats off to this dedicated group of young professionals who have improved the lives of thousands of children and youth in our community. Today, over 11,000 students in 148 schools begin their day with a nutritious breakfast, ready to learn.”
The Ottawa Gala is a fixture on the social calendar of tomorrow's leaders. Attracting generous corporate sponsors and over 800 fun-loving attendees each year, the Gala has raised over $600,000 for charity since 1993. This year’s Ottawa Gala is set for April 16, 2011.
