What is the Ottawa Gala?
The gala is a semi-formal fundraiser, with dancing and entertainment, put on by the Fund for a New Generation and supported by various local and national sponsors.
Money raised is given to charitable organizations that benefit children in the Ottawa region including the Ottawa School Breakfast Program, managed by the Ottawa-Carleton Learning Foundation (OCLF) .
What is the Fund for a New Generation?
The Fund was started eighteen years ago by a group of young professionals in Ottawa who wanted to give back to the community.
What is OCLF?
OCLF develops and implements collaborative community-based initiatives to support student learning at all levels. These programs support the learning needs of students throughout the Ottawa community, with a particular focus on elementary and secondary students who are “at risk” of school failure and/or require additional support. OCLF channels resources (e.g. funding, volunteers, books, equipment, and other in-kind donations) from the community to schools to help students succeed.
When does the Gala take place?
Gala 2011 will take place on Saturday April 16th, from 8pm to 2 am.
What about tickets?
It is $60 for a general admission ticket or 2 for $110.
VIP tickets are $125 each or 2 for $225 and theytickets include access to the VIP area and open bar between 8pm and 11pm.
This event has always sold out quickly in the past - even with 800 tickets available - so make sure to get your ticket soon. You can purchase tickets eonline at www.ottawagala.com or in person at Fresco’s Bistro Italiano (354 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario) or Soma Health and Fitness (700 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, Ontario).
People who purchase tickets online before April 1st, 2011 will receive a $30 gift certificate from DNA 11 along with their ticket. There will be 1 gift certificate per ticket purchased, for a maximum of 400 gift certificates.
Where is the Gala held?
The Gala will be held at the Government Conference Centre (the former train station) across from the Chateau Laurier and Westin Hotels at the corner of Wellington & Colonel By Drive. Please use the Colonel By entrance for the event.
Who usually attends this event?
We like to think of our guest list as a "who's who" of Ottawa's young professionals. Attendance at the Gala is largely split between the public sector, and the private and academic sectors.
What type of entertainment will there be?
The large Government Conference Centre will have different entertainment of different genres providing a variety of music throughout the entire evening.
How much has the Fund for a New Generation raised?
Since 1993 we have raised in excess of $550,000.
Is this the same as the Child Poverty Gala and/or the Angel Ball?
Yes, these are other names that have been used to describe the "Ottawa Gala" in the past.
